From one fantasy illustrator *I wanted to do album covers back in High School* to another..
Your work is superb! But like me, you are your own worst critic. I started up again about 3 years ago, glad I did too. When people who knew my work heard I was getting started again , they were like "Why did you EVER stop??" So now I'm planning a graphic novel. Get back at it!! You have no excuse to say your work is bad, you have a lot of talent! There..lecture over. [img]wink.gif[/img]
BTW My influences were Roger Dean, Peter Lloyd, and Frazetta.

I think my problem (aside from time) is motivation. After about 1984 I realized I wasn't going to make a living painting and just gave it up all together. I dug these paintings out of out of my Mom's garage about three years ago and the next thing I knew I was hooked again on comics toys and fantasy art (its how started collecting). I guess you really can't shake your first love. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

I can't post pics yet..I have to photograph my work and get a hosting site, but I plan to soon,
as I have a boatload of customs I've done to put up also.
I relate to the motivation thing, what got me going again was getting into graphic novels and comics. Seeing people like Ash Wood's and Michael Zulli's work..IOW not just your straight style comic art was a big motivator for me. Basically collecting these figures got me back into reading comics like Spawn and Sandman which got me back to illustrating. Finding adult oriented comics to be a great avenue for me was what really did it.

That's amazing - you followed the same path I did. I started collecting Spawn figs first, then wanted to find out what the character was about and bought every Spawn TPB that was published. After that I discovered Wood's art and was just blown away. If I were to reinvent my 'style' it would be in the same vein as Wood's - if I could ever figure out how he does what he does [img]biggrin.gif[/img] .

I know what you mean about Wood's art..That's where I need to learn Photoshop
and such..I'm definitely an 'old school' illustrator. Michael Zulli (Sandman Vol 10) has a style I like a whole lot too. It's almost classic pencil portrait art. Damn, we really did follow the same path..that is a trip [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Maybe I should start painting again. ... I'll have to see what I can dig up.
